Q&A – I have sap coming out of my peach trees in a couple of spots. Is this normal?

Question:
I have sap coming out of my peach trees in a couple of spots. Is this normal?

Answer:

This is probably caused by the lesser peach tree borer. The only way to prevent this borer is to stop it before it burrows into the tree. UT Extension Agent Chris Cooper says you need to protect the tree in June and July. He lists several options. University of Memphis Director of Landscape Joellen Dimond recommends a publication on timing for spraying fruit in the Mid-West. Make sure to keep the tree comfortable with water and fertilizer.
