Q&A – I saw these trees up north. What are they and can I grow them in the Memphis Area?

Question:
I saw these trees up north. What are they and can I grow them in the Memphis Area?

Answer:

This is a paperbark maple. University of Memphis Director of Landscape Joellen Dimond says it is her favorite maple and its range does extend as far south as zone 8 with a good growing location. This far south it needs well drained moist soils with afternoon shade.
