Q&A – My apple tree bears fruit, but it dries up before it matures. Why?
Question:
I have an apple tree. It bears fruit, but the fruit dries up before it matures. Why does this happen?
Answer:
Dried up fruit hanging on a tree is called a mummy and is caused by a fungal infection. Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison recommends following a home orchard spray schedule. That will help control fungal infections as well as insect pests. Remove the mummified fruit and throw it in the garbage.
