Q&A – My peach has dark limb tips and is losing leaves. What is wrong?
Question:
Hey guys greetings from Ohio! I have a 5-foot Blushing Star peach and a smaller Red haven peach. They are younger trees of fruit bearing age and size. My peach has developed dark limb tips and is losing its leaves. What is wrong? I'm guessing brown rot. We have had a lot of rain and heat for a few weeks now. Any advice at all? Am I crazy to be trying to grow these peaches?
Answer:
This is most likely brown rot. Brown rot is a fungal disease which can be controlled with regular fungicide applications. Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison gives a schedule for spraying in Tennessee. (Check with your local Extension Agent for the schedule in your area.) Mike also talks about when to mix insecticides with the fungicide to prevent damage from the plumb curculio. He also gives information on how to spray for the peachtree borer.
