Q&A – My toad abodes only attract black widows. How do I attract toads?
Question:
My toad abodes only attract black widow spiders. How do I attract toads?
Answer:
The best thing to do is to add a water feature to your yard. That will attract the toads and provides a place for them to lay their eggs. They will be more likely to stick around. To control the black widows, Jim Crowder, from Memphis Botanic Garden, recommends blowing some diatomaceous earth into the toad abode every month or so. The diatomaceous earth will dry out and kill the spiders but won’t harm the toads. Also, don’t use insecticides. They will kill the toad’s food supply, and they will leave.
