Q&A – My tomato plants are blooming but there are no tomatoes. What is the problem?
Question:
My tomato plants are blooming but there are no tomatoes. What is the problem?
Answer:
Tomato plants are not setting fruit because it is too hot. UT Extension Agent Chris Cooper says the optimum temperature for tomatoes is between 70-85 degrees. When the temperature gets higher the pollen quickly becomes unviable, so the flowers are not pollinated and the fruit does not grow. You will begin to get fruit set again when the daytime temperatures fall.
