Q&A – My trees have many small branches growing out of their trunks. Should we have them trimmed?

Question:
My trees have many small branches growing out of their trunks. Should we have them trimmed?

Answer:
This is epicormic growth. University of Memphis Director of Landscape Joellen Dimond says you should remove them. There are too many branches to allow them to develop properly and they are taking nutrients away from the canopy of the tree.
