Q&A – One branch of my cherry tree has a hole down the middle. What is it?
Question:
I was pruning my cherry tree and one branch had a hole down the middle. In it the hole was what looked like a worm hole. What should I do?
Answer:
Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison thinks this is a secondary infection. He thinks the branch was dead. This could be from the longhorn wood borer. He does not think it is the peachtree borer which also affects cherries. The peachtree borer would be just under the bark. Mike also gives the recommended chemicals for preventing peachtree borers.
