Would you recommend using pine straw or shredded hardwood for mulching around plants?

Both are excellent mulches. Horticultural Expert Dr. Lelia Kelly points out the advantages and disadvantages of each. The pine straw won’t wash away but it breaks down faster. The hardwood mulch is more likely to wash but if it does not, it can last longer.
