Q&A – The tips of my rose buds are brown? Do they have thrips?
Question:
When my roses bud the tips of the buds get brown and/or look like they are eaten. Do you think this is thrips? What do you suggest for treatment? They are more brown so I know it isn't a grasshopper. Thank you so much.
Answer:
Most likely yes. When thrips feed on roses they make the blooms look discolored and distorted. They will not develop properly so cut those blooms off. For future blooms you can spray while the flower is still in the bud stage. Use an insecticidal soap, neem oil, or spinosad. You could also use a systemic soil drench.
