Q&A – What are the black and yellow caterpillars eating my parsley?

Question:
What are the black and yellow caterpillars eating my parsley?

Answer:

These are the larvae of the swallowtail butterfly. Master Gardener John Peterson says they feed on parsley, cilantro, fennel, and other members of the carrot family. He says they will quickly defoliate the parsley and then move on to another plant. Don’t kill the caterpillar, the parsley will survive and regrow.
