Q&A – What are the black spots on my potato leaves?

Question:
What are the black spots on my potato leaves and how do I control this issue?

Answer:
Gardening Expert Tonya Ashworth points out that potatoes are in the same family as tomatoes, so they get many of the same diseases. While she can not be sure because she has not seen pictures, she thinks the problem is fungal, possibly early blight. She recommends rotating your vegetables so that place in your garden has tomatoes or potatoes only every few years. This will reduce the occurrence of the disease. You can also apply fungicides to prevent the spread of the disease. They can’t cure what is already there. Also, you can plant resistant varieties that are less susceptible.
