Q&A – What are these borers? They have killed 7 of my trees.

Question:
What are these borers? They have killed 7 of my trees.

Answer:

These are flatheaded wood borers. Retired Extension Agent Mike Dennison says they usually don’t attack healthy trees. These borers attack trees that are stressed. Once the borers are in the tree the tree will probably die. The best prevention is to keep your trees from becoming stressed.
