Q&A – What can I plant to keep rabbits away from my cabbage?

Question:
"I would like to plant some cabbages, but we regularly see wild rabbits, around the yard. I know certain plants like mums or lavender can be used to deter pests. What are some natural things I can plant with cabbage to hopefully keep rabbits away?"  - De’Ana,  Memphis

Answer:
Unfortunately, there is nothing you can plant that is a rabbit repellent. TSU Extension Agent Joellen Dimond lists some plants rabbits won’t eat, but the rabbits will just skip them and go for the cabbage.  UT Extension Horticultural Specialist Carol Reese suggests getting a dog to keep the rabbits away. The only way to keep them away for sure is to put up a fence they can’t jump over.
