Q&A – What is this bark damage on my crape myrtles?
Question:
I've noticed these areas on my crepe myrtle recently. Are they normal growth expansions in the bark, or are they a disease?
Answer:
These crape myrtles were wounded at some time in the past. The tree is trying to compartmentalize the wound with new tissue. Trees don’t heal like animals do, they compartmentalize the damage. The crape myrtle will survive.
