What is this fungus growing on my mulch?

Answer:
This is a slime mold that is commonly called dog vomit because of its look. UT Extension Agent Celeste Scott says it feeds on decaying organic matter, which is exactly what mulch is. It will not harm your plants. If you find it unsightly you can scoop it up and dispose of it.
