Q&A – What is this plant and how do I get rid of it?

Question:
What is this plant and how do I get rid of it?

Answer:

This is Italian Arum, and it is invasive and hard to get rid of. Memphis Botanic Garden Horticulturist Jill Maybry says when she encounters the plant, she first digs it up and tries to remove all the roots from the soil. Then when it comes back up again, she uses herbicide on the new leaves. UT Extension Agent Chris Cooper says it will probably take several applications of herbicide to kill the plant.
