Q&A – What is this weed in My lawn? -Ground Ivy

Question:
What is this weed in My lawn? -Ground Ivy

Answer:
This is ground ivy also known as creeping charlie. It is a perennial and is in the mint family. It likes damp shady conditions. It can also tolerate full sun after it has grown for a while in shade. If this is in your lawn and you want to get rid of it, grow a thick stand of grass. The grass will crowd it out. You may need to adjust the soil pH for grass or change other conditions to favor grass. If ground ivy is growing, it is probably shady so you may also need to limb up some trees to let more light in.
