Q&A – Why is my old hybrid tea rose not blooming? I fertilize it often.
Question:
Why is my old hybrid tea rose not blooming? I fertilize it often.
Answer:
In this case the plant is getting too much nitrogen fertilizer. UT Extension Agent Booker T. Leigh says the nitrogen fertilizer encourages it to grow leaves, which the plant is doing. He recommends reducing the amount of fertilizer. University of Memphis Director of Landscape Joellen Dimond says she would also hold off on the fertilizer. She also recommends a pH test. Joellen says with all the fertilizer in the soil it might have messed up the pH. Booker says because roses are heavy feeders, and that plant has been there for a while, you may consider moving the plant to another location with fresh soil.
