Q&A – Why won’t my hydrangea bloom?
Question:
Why won’t my hydrangea bloom?
Answer:
There are several reasons hydrangeas don’t bloom. University of Memphis Director of Landscape Joellen Dimond says it may be because the plant was pruned at the wrong time of year. Depending on the type of hydrangea (which we don’t know) you need to prune in the spring if the plant blooms on new wood, or after it finishes blooming if it blooms on old wood. Also, she says winter conditions like cold weather can reduce blooming some years. Joellen says hydrangeas like shade, but this plant may need more sun than it is getting.
