Q&A – Will Granny Smith trees grow in the
Memphis area?

Question:
Will Granny Smith trees grow in the Memphis area?

Answer:
Yes they will. They are on the UT Extension list of apple varieties that can be grown in Tennessee. They will have some problems like fireblight, scab, and cedar-apple rust. Because of this you will need to regularly spray the Granny Smith tree during the growing season. Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison recommends planting a disease resistant variety of apple as the pollinator. He gives some options.
