Q&A – Will I be able to save my maple tree that is missing a piece of bark?

Question:
Will I be able to save my maple tree that is missing a piece of bark?

Answer:
It may be possible to save the tree. Tonya Ashworth from Dixon Gallery and Gardens recommends getting a bag of mulch to keep lawnmowers and weed eaters away from the tree. She also recommends taking care of the tree, watering and checking regularly for in insect infestation. Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison says trees do a very good job of healing. If the tree survives, in several years you will not even be able to see the damage.
