Q&A –Best way to get rid of fire ants in raised beds?

Question:
What’s the best way to kill grubs in my lawn and flower beds?

Answer:
Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison first would like to know if the raised bed has vegetables in it. If it is a vegetable bed you shouldn’t use a bait because. In this case just frequently bother the ant colony: disturb them every time you walk by or pour hot water on the mound. Fire ants don’t like to be disturbed and they will move. If the bed is for ornamentals you can use the two-step method. Step one: put down ant bait. Step two: a few weeks later use a contact insecticide to kill the remaining ants.
