Q&A - Slugs In My Flowerbeds

Question:
What is the best way to control slugs in my flowerbeds?

Answer:
There are several ways to control slugs in the garden. Haywood County Extension Director Walter Battle shows how to use beer to attract and drown slugs. There are other baits that can by used. Iron phosphate is a bait that is safe for pets and children.  Another available bait is Metaldehyde which is highly toxic. This bait, like iron phosphate is spread on the ground and is available for animals and children to eat for days after application.   Metaldehyde is not recommended because of the toxicity dangers to pets and children. Slugs like wet conditions and like to hide under rocks and boards. Ensuring good drainage and removing places to hide will discourage slugs.
