Q&A - When to Plant Figs

Question:
In May I took two cuttings from a fig tree in Jackson, Mississippi. They seem to be growing very well. They are in 1.75 gallon planters. One is 15 inches high, one it about 12 inches high. The smaller one has recently lost one leaf. What should I do with the small figs over the winter? Is it time to put them in the ground?

Answer:

Dr. Lelia Kelly helps Chris explain when and how to plant fig trees. Putting fig trees in the ground by January is recommended. Water the fig trees even if they lose their leaves, the dormant season is when trees strengthen and grow their root systems and get ready for the growing season.
