Q&A - Will I have fire blight again this year?

Question:
If I have fire blight on my pear trees last year, would it return this year? What can I do to prevent it?

Answer:
If you had fire blight last year and it is a rainy spring it is very likely the fire blight will return this year. Retired UT Extension agent Mike Dennison gives the treatment that is necessary to combat the blight: Dormant oil plus copper then later several application of Streptomycin.

Mike Dennison was referring to the UT Extension publication: Disease and Insect Control in Home Fruit Plantings.
