Q&A – Do I need to prune my lemon to get it to produce branches?
Question:
Do I need to prune my lemon to get it to produce branches?
Answer:
The short answer is yes, top the main trunk and it will branch out. Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison does point out that the two lemon trees that are being asked about may not be the same species of tree. Lemons are a cross of two citrus species and one of those is a cross of two others so there is a lot of diversity in the genetic information. The fruit the lemon trees came from has only half the genetic information from the mother tree. The other half is unknown.
