Q&A - How do I kill chickweed in
my grass?

Question:
I have lots of chickweed growing like crazy in my dense sandy lawn. Other than pulling it, how do I permanently get rid of it?

Answer:
Chickweed can be killed using a number of broadleaf weed killers, the exact weed killer would depend on what kind of grass you have. If the grass is a warm season grass like Bermuda or zoysia you can use glyphosate (Round-Up) after the grass has gone dormant for the winter. Also, if you have a problem every year, put down a pre-emergent in September that will prevent the chickweed from sprouting as the temperatures cool in the fall. Also, you could just eat it, chickweed is edible.
