Q&A - How do I prune my fig tree to make it produce?
Question:
In the hard freezes two winters ago, my Celeste Fig tree’s trunk died in the cold. What grew looked like feeders they had no branches, but did have small fruit, but never any large edible ones. Are these smaller branches growing from the root stock, and not the Celeste? How do I prune this fig to make it produce again?
Answer:
The Celeste fig can be pruned back to the shape you want. You can cut it back all the way to the ground and it will regrow. Celeste figs are not grafted so all the branches coming out are true to the variety. The Celeste fig produces smaller figs.
