Q&A - Is it too late to start cool season vegetables?

Question:
Is it too late to start my cool season vegetables?

Answer:
Spring cool season vegetables can be planted at different times depending on if they are seeds or transplants. Most of the time seeds need to be started in February to have the plants mature before it gets too hot. Transplants can be planted into the ground as late as early April. Lettuce varieties tend to be the least heat tolerant but some varieties of broccoli and cabbage can be grown later. Some fast maturing plants may be planted from seed as late as April.
Mike Dennison was referring to the UT Extension publication: Guide to Spring-Planted, Cool-Season Vegetables for planting dates.
