Q&A – How can I kill holly bush stumps?

Question:
How can I kill Holly bush stumps? I cut mine to the ground a few years ago but shoots still grow from the roots.

Answer:
After you cut it down the holly wants to live so it is trying to regrow. TSU Extension Agent Joellen Dimond says that you need to keep cutting the shoots that come up. Eventually, the plant will run out of energy and die. In addition to doing this, Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison suggests spraying the sprouts with glyphosate.
