Q&A – My hydrangeas have not bloomed in two years. What can I do to help them bloom?

Question:
My hydrangeas have not bloomed in two years. What can I do to help them bloom?

Answer:

There are several kinds of hydrangeas and depending on which one you have it may need to be pruned in the spring or after it has finished blooming. Also, the winter weather can affect if they will bloom.Retired Mississippi Extension Horticulture Specialist Lelia Kelly says hers will not bloom this year because this last winter had some very cold weather. UT Extension Agent Chris Cooper says the plant may be getting too much nitrogen fertilizer which promotes leafy growth.
