Q&A – My rhododendron’s leaves are curled and yellow. Can it be saved?

Question:
My rhododendron’s leaves are curled and yellow. Can it be saved?

Answer:

It does not look good. University of Memphis Director of Landscape Joellen Dimond says rhododendrons are evergreen and with all the leaves dying she does not think the plant will survive. UT Extension Agent Chris Cooper says this might be stem dieback or root rot. Either way the plant will likely not survive. If you want to replace the plant, make sure conditions are good for the new plant.
