Q&A – What can I do to get rid of eastern tent caterpillars?

Question:
What can I do to get rid of eastern tent caterpillars?

Answer:
Eastern tent caterpillars build webs on cherry and plum trees every spring. Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison says there are many insecticides labeled to control the eastern tent caterpillar, but he recommends using Bt or Bacillius therengisis. This insecticide is organic and non-toxic to humans. Bt works best on younger caterpillars.
