Q&A – What can I do to make my hydrangea bloom?

Question:
What can I do to make my hydrangea bloom?

Answer:

There are several possible reasons the hydrangea is not blooming. UT Extension Agent Chris Cooper says cold weather can make the buds abort, too much shade may keep the plant from blooming, low soil fertility may deny the plant the nutrients it needs to bloom, or too much nitrogen fertilizer can encourage the plant to create lots of green leaves but no flowers. The problem could also be pruning at the wrong time of year.
