Q&A – What type of shrub is this and when should I prune it?
Question:
What type of shrub is this and when should I prune it?
Answer:
This is a dwarf Burford holly. University of Memphis Director of Landscape Joellen Dimond says the best time of year to prune hollies is in the spring. Hollies are tough plants and will come back from very severe prunings. In this case she recommends cutting the plants way back and then shaping them so they are wider on the bottom than on the top. This will allow the sun to reach more leaves and the plant to fill in.
