Q&A – Will bagworms kill my
Japanese maple?

Question:
Will bagworms kill my Japanese maple?

Answer:

They will not kill the tree. Retired UT Extension Agent Mike Dennison says you can easily kill bagworms in the spring with the organic insecticide Bacillus thuringiensis. Once they create the bag it is impossible to kill them with insecticide. By the end of the year the bags are full of eggs that will hatch next year. Pulling the bags off the tree and throwing them away will reduce the bagworm population next year.
