Planting Violas

It is time to replace the summer flowers with winter coming. TSU Extension Agent Joellen Dimond takes out the summer flowers and replaces them with violas. Last spring Joellen planted several kinds of flowers but the bat-faced cuphea took over the bed with its red flowers. Joellen is leaving the dusty miller she planted one year ago. It has not bloomed and will probably last another season. After removing the summer flowers and smoothing the soil Joellen applies a slow release fertilizer and a thin layer of mulch. Then she lays out and plants the violas around the dusty miller.
