Q&A – Is borax a safe method for killing ants in a raised bed
vegetable garden?

Question:
Is borax a safe method for killing ants in a raised bed vegetable garden?

Answer:

Borax is toxic to ants and slowly destroys their digestive system. It is safe for humans. Mary Schmidt from Lichterman Nature Center says you should use as little as possible and also keep your pets away as they will be attracted to the sugary mix of your home-made bait. UT Extension Agent Chris Cooper says in a vegetable garden you can use commercial ant baits that contain Spinosad.
