Q&A – What is the best way to keep squirrels from eating tulip bulbs?

Question:
What is the best way to keep squirrels from eating tulip bulbs?

Answer:

Squirrels and chipmunks can dig up and eat tulip bulbs. To stop them UT Extension Agent Lee Sammons recommends laying a piece of chicken wire on the surface of the ground and covering it with mulch. The squirrels won’t be able to dig through the wire, and the tuilps will be able to grow up through the holes in the spring.
