Planting Sunpatiens, Joseph's Coat, and Colocasia
TSU Extension Agent Joellen Dimond plants summer annuals. Last fall she planted violas which will be taken out. They are in the peak of bloom, but the new plants need a chance to get established before the hot weather arrives. Joellen has decided to leave the dusty miller that was planted more than a year ago because it still looks good. After removing the violas, Joellen sprinkles on some slow release fertilizer to feed the plants through the season. Then she lays out and plants the Colocasia. It will get taller, so she places them behind the dusty miller. Then she arranges the sunpatiens evenly around the bed and plants them. Then she fills in spaces with the Joseph’s coat.
